I cleaned the house well this week for a visitor, then tidied up for my bday, then Brett helped me get it clean again Sunday when neighbors came over, so I decided it was as good a time as any to take pictures of the house.
Not that we are crazy messy, just pictures are nicer without cups on the counter and with the fridge wiped clean. But don’t expect me to waste time brightening these photos. I have other things to do with my time.
First, the floorplan: I can’t find our final one, after changes, so I drew on a copy of their with-attic version of our plan.
1. Yes, I did the butterfly island. Because I spend 90% of my time in the kitchen.
2. Brett popped out exterior walls for the pantry and laundry by 1 foot. It’s just cantilever, which means it is slightly cheeper, and hangs out over the basement level. Kinda tacky, but since it is behind our garage, who cares?! This is to make room for a full cabinet sink (one day) instead of a freestanding plastic thing.
3. 3rd car gargage added, for our, um, 1 car.
4. Powder room is actually standard, it is just laid out differently from this attic plan I altered, since we don’t have attic stairs.
5. Added doors to our flex/livingroom... because sitting rooms are stupid, and because then we could have it be an office... where babies can’t come in and eat my wires.
6. Popped our the exterior master/masterbath wall a foot or two... it was a standard option, whatever it was. This one pops out with the basement too, adding to the basement space. I still don’t get why brett wanted this one, I don’t think we needed this much space. We have little furniture.
7. Pop out the exterior of the twin’s room (and basement) to make more room for furniture and twin beds one day. Also made their window bigger, using a window “credit” we had from a basement window lost due to the 3rd car garage.
8. Instead of making twin closet bigger, we scooted it down, and added a linen closet in the kid bath. THis is what I like our builder. It was the architects idea, and it was free, because I had a “door credit” for asking them to take the door off the “poop closet” in the master bath (too many doors and just traps in smell for later.

So we actually downgraded from standard tile in the kid bath to linoleum to use the money on upgrades elsewhere. Also Downgraded the granite counter (We negotiated free granite upgrade for the house when we signed) to cultured marble for some other upgrades. B tried to get me to go down to laminate counter tops, but I just think of them peeling from curling irons and warping. I mean, fine, I’m a bratt.

See my free granite upgrade sparkle? Mostly, I love that I don’t have to worry about it warping if we accidentally put something hot right on it.

We definitely have some empty space for furniture. And it was only like 1-200 bucks to make our cabinets go the extra foot to the celing. Impossible to reach, but no dust shelf on top, and extra storage for stuff you rarely use.

I have a love hate relationship with my kitchen floor. It’s really nice for a level 1 flooring, but it shows dirt / foot prints/ finger prints so easily that it’s never clean for an hour.

The ceiling vault was standard. Forgot what it’s called, but it is maybe a shelf? Not necessary, but a nice touch.

Our carpet is not pink, btw, it is sandy colored. AND there is a door on the bathroom there... that’s not the one I removed.

Definitely not the largest master I’ve seen, but our king bed looks small in it.

Also downgraded the standard tile in the Laundry to linoleum. I’m really proud of my downgrades. They let me get more important things.

I should’ve spent more time getting better photos of the twins room. IT’s pretty empty with just 2 cribs. THey need their own dresser in there.
