The problem with an at home studio...

Is that some people think they can sit right in front of your camera

The Pro is that if Polo ever gets lost, I'll be able to put up posters with rather detailed photos of his anatomy.

Death by Polo

It's 3 am, do you know where your gingerbread babies are?

The inside of gingerbread houses must taste better than the outside.

Don't worry, their home insurance covers beast damage

sugar sick already?

Polo Sharing

Yesterday B told our dog to "grow a pair." I think this is hardly fair, as the last time he grew 'em the vet took them away.

If Gigi lays in Polo's bed, he won't share it, even if there is plenty of room for him, but if we kick her out, he'll take up residence, and then we can usually put Gigi in the extra space and with a little coaxing persuade her to stay.

Some dogs like Whippets and Greyhounds are known to pile up on top of each other, but it appears these other muts here have personal space issues.

Needy

So this one time, as in yesterday, Brett dropped me off at work (with Polo in the car) and then wen't up to finnish the electrical work at his dad's house. Apparently Polo was supper clingy all day after dropping me off, so when Brett was standing on the stool, Polo climbed up and cramed on there with him.

Brett got off of the stool to take the picture for me, but I wish he'd gotten someone else to take it so that I could see Polo crammed in a tiny spot on the stool.

um $600... No thanks... IKEA hacker, Thanks!

Dear Pop-Up-Kenel,
You have served us well, but I want you out of our bedroom.

Dear crate-making companies,
You need to make more aesthetically pleasing/functional (ie. doubles as an end table) crates. Oh, and less expensive too please. (These ones range from 400-600).

Dear Ikea,
I failed to be hack inspired by browsing your website. Infact, your website isn't my favorite to navigate.

Dear Ikea hacker blog,
I appreciate your thourough research in redirecting me to this gem made from 2 odd Ikea desks.
*$100 to make (still hoping for a cheeper solution though)
*The white desks should match our existing ikea dresser/night stands ( I hope)
* Side access as opposed to front access (so we don't have to angle it)
* Can stick stuff on top of it.
* Need to check size though
*may add a valance on top to help close off for more cave-like feel (keep him out from under the bed).

testing.... video

Testing out my little video camera on my new ipod.... things that you really wanted to see... like this.

Wow... blogger really compresses this video... that's no fun.
Kinda disappointing, really. the video is so much better than that. I wonder if Brett knows any secrets to making it prettier.

Let me test out a different one.

Nope. still ugly. Grrrrrrr. I blame google. I hear that google and mac are enemies now. I bet they purposely degraded my video!

Gigi Boo

Sissy's dog is in Heat. I may have the biggest butt in my immediate family, but I'm not the one wearing the hot pants.

mini walk

So, yesterday I decided that since I don't always have time to take polo on long walks everyday, I should just start taking him on mini walks throughout the day... which consists of walking him down my street, then back up it. It isn't a very long walk, but a very steep one. Ick.

I thought it was funny that, at the end of the day, I was more sore from Four 5min walks, than I ever get from my 1 hour walks. My bottom is gunna get fox if I keep this up. Today I only did it 3 times (but the last one was longer than normal).

I actually think I am more productive when I have to get up and walk him frequently... it pulls me away from whatever I am doing that is distracting me from what I should be doing.

Adventures in fur

I bought my first dust buster a few nights ago.

Perhaps it is lazy of me, but I don't want to drag my awesome vacuum downstairs so that I can use it's awesome 17 foot telescoping hose on the spiral wood staircase EVERY DAY. In fact. I never did it everyday. Maybe twice a month... and my mom just ended up doing it all the time because, as it turns out, Polo is always shedding, especially (it seams) on the staircase. I don't know why, but he didn't shed the first few months we had him... now every time you hug him it is hair all over you. (we use it without the funky attachment since the stairs are wood, but the attachment seamed to do well on my lumbar pillow.

So I bought a dust buster because I think it is mean of me to let my mom clean up after my dog this much. And I have used it once a day for the last 3 days. I think I like it.I always thought they were kinda redundant, but I suppose they have their uses.

Secondly, I bought a furbuster--which is the knock off of the furminator.,if you have seen those ads. Po doesn't have an undercoat, so it is nothing like the results they show, but it does do something for pulling out his dead hair, and the other brush we had did absolutely nothing for him( and he hated the other brush) I want to take a picture of the little fur tail I gout out of him after a nice long brush watching tv, but I think brett threw it away.

These photos below are obviously not of my dog.. but I thought it would be fun to show what dogs with fur (and not just hair) can do.

the count of fortune.

Many of you have already heard this, but Friday evening, my dog ate snail poison. My mother forgot to tell me she put it out in the front, where the dogs don't spend much time.

Fortunately, Brett saw him eat it.

Fortunately (and unfortunately) my neighbors dog died several years ago from eating some, and so I knew it could kill him.

Fortunately my sister thought to call poison control. (I thought they were just for people).

Fortunately, we had Hydrogen peroxide I finally bought a few months ago.

Unfortunately for Polo, we had to force it down Polo's throat.

Fortunately he didn't hate me for doing it.

Fortunately the father of one of my childhood friends is a well respected vet and lives really close by.

Unfortunately, I haven't spoken to them in years and years and interrupted their dinner.

Fortunately my sister came with us and talked to them before I came in, because I was getting teary.

Unforntuately I never thought I would get so bent out of shape about a pet. Lets face it I totally love a dog. (hey, he closes the door after he comes in... how could you not love such a thoughtful dog)

Fortunately Polo vomited up all the foamy hydrogen peroxide, and the snail bait came up quick enough that he didn't seam to absorb any of the poison.

Fortunately Dr. Hinebaugh reasured me that the poison hadn't been in long enough for it to do anything, and we didn't have to do anything else.

Fortunatley He not only told me that I didn't owe him a thing, but also offered to give my dog snake vaccinations at his home next week.

Unfortunately, Polos tummy wasn't very happy and he we had to sleep on the hard wood floor so I could easily clean up his non foamy grosser vommit all night long.

Unfortunatley we had to deprive him of all food for 24 hours because food keept upsetting his tummy.

Fortunately Polo got spoiled today with a white rice and chicken diet. No dog food today. Allllllll human food.

We bought pet safe snail poison yesterday to replace this evil stuff.

Puppy Torture

I succumbed and got polo his first outfit. At least it is practical though, He doesn't like to get wet in the rain, but the dog has gotta pee... and it has been raining so much lately that I got this a week ago. Heck, for 6 bucks, and it doubles as a halloween costume (if I ever stoop that low)... why not.

Excuse the bluryness... I was using my mother's old point and shoot, because I don't always want to cary a Bulky heavy breakable SLR with me every where I go.

Sometimes I get distracted at work

I also made carrot cake today. I put Ginger juice in the frosting... Next time I shall put even more ginger in it.

I need to work: part 18

Another case of putting of work supper blogging.

Anyhow not to sound crazy, but while I am hopping not to bore you with dog stuff, having my first dog has oppened my eyes to many things I have never noticed before, such as how my dog and babies/toddlers (from my babysitting experience) are alike:

1. They sleep most the day
2. puppy whines when he has to potty, babies grunt.
3. They are always hungry
4. The both like to eat my hair.
5. They explore new textures by putting them in their mouth
6. They both cry when you leave them behind
7. Fetch is not instinctual, both the babies I've dealt with and my dog needed be taught to go chase the ball
8. You have to baby proof the house
9. They both get destructive when they are bored.
10. They both need to get proper exercise or they can tear up the house.

My Second Post

So, my first post was up for what, 5 minutes before charlotte started mocking it? That didn't take long. Keep in mind I did ask her for musical input, but she didn't have any suggestions. Know I am starting to see why she really wanted me to contribute to her blog, she just wanted one more person to mock! Now I know! So sly! In light of her recent comment on my first post, I am posting the same video a second time, but with Salty Dog as the soundtrack.

Lets vote to see which is better!

My First Post

So once upon a time charlotte wanted to add me as an author to her blog, and not being the blogging type I declined the offer. Then we got a puppy and I since several people wanted photos I thought, hey, why not make a little mini video instead? So I made one and I handed it to Charlotte, but she said the only way it would make it to the masses is if I posted it. So she kindly resent an invitation to list me as an author on her blog, opened my email account, accepted the invitation, logged me into blogger, clicked on the new post button, attached the video, and then got up and told me to finish the rest. So, here I am. The end.

p.s. Austin, I thought you would like to know that I was so close to using Salty Dog by Flogging Molly for the soundtrack.

Puppy Updates

Puppy is acting more like a puppy every day.

It took 3 days (sunday) for him to:
sleep in a soft kennel peacefully
almost run for short distances
bark (fortunately, not a lot)
look at a ball when we threw it
growl at the evil dog in the mirror
have his first (and so far only) in door "marking of the ficus"
show an interest in chewing things.

4 days to:
know where to potty without a leash
chase for short distances (in a puppy, bouncy-type run)
fall into the pool when jumping a hedge (when chasing brett)
come when he was called
chase the tennis ball once, and only once
half heartedly play tug of war for short periods of time

5 days to:
ignore you when you called,
sit on command
put his paws up on people at the dinner table/ on the counter where things were cooking

6 days (today) to:
chase tennis balls (or at least pounce towards them)!
sprint around the tree
get really, really excited about a homemade toy (I make the best homemade toys... my kids will have the best fun free can have).
impersonate (Imfelineate?) a cat (with aforementioned toy)
come when called (again!)
explore (with some whining) on on).

I have also been thinking for several days that he looks like a Jack Russel Terrier. I really think he might be part terrier.

Dear Tracie,

You were right. I probably will choose something regardless of your suggestions.

Thing is, We couldn't find one we liked before we posted that. Brett did like "Lampshade" I found "Captain Butters" amusing, and even considered "Weekly." So don't feel as if your suggestions were totally useless.

Here's how it has gone. Brett finally suggested Polo and Apollo, and yesterday I decided I couldn't keep calling him puppy. I like Apollo, but feel it is a little to long, and Polo is missing something.
So, Sunday he was Polo. Today my mother mentioned Paulo and I rather like that. We could name him Apollo, and call him Paulo and Polo for short. I'm sure the puppy will deal with it, they are close enough, right?

I shall have you vote.

So... Brett went to Costco

and came back with a dog and no food. Huh.

Oddly enough, it was one of the three dogs we looked at (at the pound) this wednesday... Wednesday he was not neutered, and today he is.

Which means Brett is a conniving sneak. Apparently Brett went back yesterday, and filled out the paperwork while I was still asleep.

And apparently everyone knew he was doing it except for me- which explains why he was watching dog training videos all day yesterday.

So now we have a 10 month old supposed whippet-lab mix with a case of Kennel cough. He is white with light golden brown spots.

No name yet. Someone at the pound named him "Mariah," which I am not going to keep, for obvious reasons.

HELP US NAME HIM.
