I'm totally obsessed with Aisling's Song right now, From The Secret of Kells. The cartoon was cute enough, a little odd at times, but worth watching once.



If you watch the movie, I thought it was interestingt that the cat's name is based on a 9th century poem about a monk's cat, named Pangur Ban/Ben... and that the Chi Rho Page they make a big deal about in the movie, is an actual illumination from a book referred to as the Book of Kells. Page looks pretty much the same, and all that makes me wonder if movies often reference history without me knowing it.


I also somewhat hooked on Healing Incantation song from Tangled. I think Mandy Moore did a great job... better than she does on her own music. As for the movie, I enjoyed it. Not in my top 5 Disney, but still fun, cute, and enjoyable. Prince Chuck Bartowski did bug me a little—not horribly, but it didn't seam to fit.

Whats with me lately and my obsession with songs from cartoons... I'm not 5.

Speaking of not being 5, I am having an incredible problem with capitols lately. I swear I've been capitalizing every 4-6th world arbitrarily. I have no idea why suddenly I am doing it more than normal, but it is driving me crazy. I look at things I've just written, and I have no recollection of doing it. I don't usually clean up my writing, but I feel like I have to at least get rid of excess capitols.

In other song news, I've been on a folkish music kick, listening to my 3 Nickel Creek songs a lot (When you come back down, I should've known better, and Anthony) Wish I liked more of their songs, but I kinda don't

On a more mainstream (but still quirky) note, via Carissa, I have come to enjoy Florence = the Machine... which I thought I hated when she first showed me. I was wrong. I love maybe 80% of her stuff. My favorite, by far, is Howl.

I liked Inception, Salt was decent, The Tourest was also decent, Tron was fun enough ( but nothing amazing), surprisingly I loved King of California, I want to see 127 hours... or maybe just read it, You Again was disappointing, Alpha & Omega was barely ok...for a kid..., Megamind was decent (but could have been funnier), Mean Girls @ was absolutely pathetic, Dinner for Shmucks was somewhat good—not as slow as the french version, I don't even remember The Other Guys (same thing goes for the Bounty Hunter ), Ramona & Bezus was ok, Sorcerer's Apprentice was a little better, Shrek#4? was neither horrible or good, Eclipse was the worst twilight movie yet (and I still have to watch the 4th one because Lee Pace is in it), . and I can't remember what else I've watched, Airbender wasn't up to it's potential but still good, Grown ups wasn't worth it (neither was Easy A), Toy Story 3 was good, Nany McPhee was a step below the first one (Pigs+synchronized swimming= time filler content), and that is everything I remember watching in the last year.

Neverwherewas an enjoyable audiobook. Would make the road trip list. Ending drug out a bit. The F word pops up every hour for the first few hours ... but other than that it's clean. I've started The Graveyard Book Audio book, also by Neil Gaiman, so far so good. I have Good Omens set aside by the same author.

I think I am liking these sci- fi fantasy things more than I usually think I will. I don't know why I avoid them, I often enjoy them... like Enders Game... Once upon a time I really liked that, but I never read much more or the serries.

Tunes for a Tuesday: Metric for all moods

I like Metric. That's nothing new, but this weekend I coompleted some of my albums on itunes, and I was reminded of something I really like about Metric: their music. har har har har.

No really, what I like (besides their music) is that, for one of their albums, they rereleased a handful of them on a seperate accustic album. As it turns out, I like both versions of a lot of these songs, their is one for the mellow days, and one for the work out days.

This is not my favorite song of theirs, but it is one of the new ones to me, so here it is, both ways.

Things I like about this video.

1. It was the free itunes download a few weeks ago.I like free.
2. It got horrible reviews.
3. It looks like a high-schooler made the video, and at first I thought it was crappy, but now I find that endearing.
4. The bad editing and nonsense imagery makes laugh. I hI love it whenever his head breaks through something.
5. I actually like the song now. It fits into my mellow mood music very well, the lyrics aren't bad, and I like the melody.

6. Skip to 1 min 30 sec into the video, that is where it really get's awesome.

Tunes for a Tuesday: Jeanette McCurdy?

Okay, so origionally I was going to share with you one of my recent guilty pleasures (and yes, I feel the shame) BAM, by Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly), but then, while looking up the video, I discovered that her co-star Jeanette Mcurdy ("Sam") is also launching a music career.

It's Country (which some of you will hate) but I think I might like it.

New Favorite Band

and by new favorite, I don't mean they've replaced my dido, but that they are new to my list of favorites. I've only gotten a handful of songs so far, but I like 'em in their chillin' mellow way.

They actually do their tour by bicycle and haul all their equipment behind them on little bike trailers. How sweet is that. LINK

Yeah, it has been announced for Nov 3rd!!! which means you can buy it for me for Brett's birthday! or I can wait an extra 2 months for Christmas...

Free song available on their website. A little different than her past stuff, but it still sounds very much like her. How do I explain it. It is a little less "singy... almost "talkish," but not quite the talk sound of Cake...But What the heck, the song is free. Download it, cherish it. ...but this reminds me that Dido was supposed to have a new album the beginning of this year. I have yet to see it. i Shouldn't rush her though because I tend to like every song on her albums... which is rare for me. If she wants to spend more time and make music I actually like, than so be it.

BUT BACK TO THE POINT.

I miss Brett. Packed up on MONDAY. Everything barely fit, but that is what happens when you squeeze 2 2-bedroom appartments a harp, a motorcycle, and a scooter (not exactly stackable) into one truck. But hey, we're saving money.

Speaking of which, any one want a couch, a kitchen table, or a coffee table. I am too lazy to post on Craig's list again.

He left at 4:30 AM TUESDAY. Arrived 3:30pm Tuesday.

SLEEPING ON THE FLOOR on my yoga mat proved more difficult than I had anticipated. I've done it before, but that was typically when I was having trouble getting comfortable in bed. The floor is apparently not ALWAYS comfortable.

THus I found myself In walmart at 3 am on wednesday morning pricing out solutions.

--Camping pads- 10ish dollars, didn't look as good as my yoga matt.
--twin inflatable mattres- 10 dollars. Small price to pay for a week, if it didn't pop. but ohhhhhhhhhhhhh then there is the 20 dollar pump (cause I'm not going to do it by mouth at 4 am)
--Another yoga mat- doesn't matter, then I would feel like I had to take up yoga... with 2 matts and all

I finally found some of those egg carton things for beds. Supposedly memory foam,but at 18 I'm sure it is a lie. I totally would have forked out the 50 for a queen size real memory foam mattress topper,but, they were sold out, and twin or full would be a waste of money since I wouldn't use it later. So I got the egg cartony one in queen at under 20, and folded it in half on top of the yoga matt.

Good enough. First night was a slight improvement. Last night was surprisingly a well rested sleep.

Tonight I miss Brett.
