Halloween crafts, via work

I know Carrisa has been wanting me to post stuff, and I have a list of things to do, but, I've been having too much fun actually doing stuff to blog about it... either that or maybe I am just too lazy to take the photos I want to take to put with the posts.

In the meantime, here is something from my work, for the crafty souls in the room.

I don't always like my covers. to be frank, sometimes they simply pic pieces that I hate. Also, I have to work around specific places text has to go, and sometimes they have these wild ideas about a theme they want. July, however, I liked. I personally would have nudged the photo to the left a bit, but I don't get to do the layout for the covers

Every month, I pick out 3 favorites to feature a detail of on the work blog. Sometimes, they really were my favorites. Often, however I don't have a favorite piece because, well, I don't wear jewelry much. Then, I pick them based on the fact that I don't hate the piece, but like the full size image of it, or that I really like the colors the person put together.

These are the ones I picked from our July issue.

Happy 4th.

We had some people over for a bbq/swim/games on Sat july 3rd. I painted my face like this.

1. It seamed to confuse people.
2. I tried making more cake pops, but used chocolate melts instead of almond bark, and it was NOT a success. I didn't put them out to share

3. I made a bunch of napkin rings in an attempt to contribute to our much neglected work blog. Here is one, but if you want to see a couple of the other ones I made that weren't completely horrible, click here.

meet Greta

She's my new best friend. She doesn't run away for the summer and leave me for California; no, she hangs out and waits for me at work... making people pee their pants when they first open the door to my studio. That'll teach them to snoop! Oh, Greta, you are such a prankster!

She is especially good at scaring people when she wears her sunglasses... they are marvelously intimidating.

Do you like her accessories? Most of them are actually mine, you see, the Hat, scarves (2), and arm-warmers were a birthday gift from my knitting friend (Dikla) in Seattle.

I'm letting her borrow them today, but I cant wait to wear them in the winter. Arm-warmers are the awesomerest in the world.

THings of Christmas, and not of christmas.

I have the cutest husband... see below the note he sent me. I am super excited about the gifts I got him (and some other peoples gifts too). I wish I could show you all, but that would ruin surprises, and to me, "THE SURPRISE FACTOR" IS EVERYTHING.

I'm not kidding. I've taken gifts back before because someone knew what I was getting them. I also love disguising obvious gifts as something else (when I have the time). Also, I don't like to shake and guess my gifts. It ruins the suspense for all the days coming up to Xmas. Sometimes I still try and figure it out right before I open it.


My work is having an XMas Party. This will be my first work party EVER (well, aside from the bowling alley where they let us all bowl for free). Now I feel all growed up. Here is the top half of the invite.... I thought it was awesome.

Were actually technically still the company known as Northridge Media, but we recently got a new "business parter" who has reorganized the business for tax purposes, so now we have more than one company name some how. He is an accountant and frankly I am surprised the 2 boss men got along this long without an accountant. They can't manage money worth shiz. I could track their finances better than they did. They are great in other ways, which is how our craft mag has been able to survive while other magazines are crumbling... we really have a great product . Our Accountant is going to make sure that they don't spend money before our paychecks have cleared. ISN'T THAT WONDERFUL?!?!?

I made ornaments, etc.

This Christmas, I feel like I have been nesting. not for a baby, mind you, but for Christmas... if that is possible. My desire to wrap presents, decorate, put up a tree, and make ornaments has been stronger than I ever remember.

We don't have a tree right now, but I went on an ornament kick.

This one I made yesterday with my new soldering iron. It celebrated my love hate relationship with snow.

Carrisa made one of her own too, but I didn't bring it home and photograph hers.

Also, earlier this week, I decided to make cinnamon applesauce ornaments like I did when I was younger. I haven't put any ribbons on them yet though. If you look carefully, you can tell it is still wet in the center.

The ones bellow (except for one star) are drying upside down.

The batch turned out much much larger than I thought it would. After, I think, 4 or 5 hours I threw away the rest of the dough scraps. I also have plenty of cinnamon left if anyone wants it. I got it cheep and when I got it home, I discovered some of them were missing their safety seals, so I don't want to bake with it.

And I know the next one isn't an ornament, but I wanted to share the prettiest sugar cookies I have ever decorated. I don't really like sugar cookies, but I made these for a reshoot of the Feb cover of our Mag. They wanted it to be more valentines day themed. It took me 5 hours to get some that were pretty looking. I've never been that good at decorating cookies.

And, of course, because they wanted me to reshoot it more obviously valentines day themed, they chose this photo below and cropped it so that you don't really know sugar cookies are there.

I will admit though, it does look better than the previous image we were going to use.

I bought some reindeer and snowflakeish wall stickers. I love the door. (and to the left are the stockings I made the first year we were married).

Excuse the bad photos, I was in a rush because I was on a deadline to shoot that cover I mentioned before.

ya, um.... I was having a hard day when I shot the cover. I hope the artist can forgive me... but even more than that... I hope they never, ever, ever find out about it. Hopefully they are easy going enough to trust that I was still careful with it.... but I had to shoot that cover 3 times...grrr

For lack of better post

Don't have time to be exciting, so instead I am posting things I created for work's blog they put out for BT.

Most of these are not published yet. I love that I can write them ahead and schedule a time for Wordpress to publish them. I wish Blogger did that.

Anyhow, these are "peeks" at my "favorite" pieces for each month. yes, I know "favorite" is in quotes. That is because I rarely love jewelry. I don't wear much at all. I often pick them for the colors, or because I love the photos I took, or because (they are too bold for me... but) I could see someone else I know wearing it, or because I am impressed with the beader's skill. Doesn't mean I would wear it... because jewelry annoys my flesh.

Somehow I feel like that last line wasn't really necessary- unless, of course, there is glass that is made for human consumption. Hey.... if anyone can find some kosher Glass potpori, please do let me know... I've got this orthodox jewish friend and...

Better in theory

So I was photographing these wine glass markers that looked like beaded hoop earrings for the June book when I got this idea of how to make cute wine glass markers for tomorrow (errr...ummm... today) out of red ribbon. I was going to write the names on it in silver sharpie... It would be simple, but add a little class to my otherwise casual (and pretty small) Valentines gathering. Well, turns out we only had lacy or Thick and Gold ribbon, and since the gold looked pretty nice with my mother's rose colored glasses, I thought I'd give it a try... Certainly I could make it work...



Well, I messed that one up discovering that my pink marker was much duller than my silver (which wouldn't show up on gold) and there after couldn't seem to get another decent looking knot, and discovered my red sharpie wasn't much better.




I'm sure my cousin and her husband (and maybe a friend nad her boy) would forgive me if they didn't look perfect, but I decided that in this case it would be better to neither ask forgiveness nor permission and just dump the whole idea.

I'll bring my mom's old compact-ish digital tomorrow to Mmountain if I remember and post them.

work work work

With the move, and building the garage add on (and a touch of slacking) I have gotten behind at work... enough that We ditched Brett's extend Family's (mom's side) camping trip and I've ditched out on two bridal showers. Whatever happened to the days when I was disciplined and got work done early so that I could have QUALITY fun time, and not just intermitent slacker time.

Anyhow, I've been worried about work a bit, and as I've been doing some computer work on my images, I got an email from my art director, and I like how the cover came out (well the thing on the right bugs me, but I did think she would use one of the other images...). I am a bit relieved because they wanted me to shoot it in hair, and well, the beads get kind of lost on most shades of hair...

A simple twist of fate

Today I've been going over résumés I've received for my replacement. Most are college students or recent graduates, etc. Some who could probably do it, Others who didn't seem to care about the requirements I listed, and applied out of sheer ambition because they "just bought a digital camera" and would like to learn photoshop... hmm. Good for you.

I was looking over one résumé where something I skimmed (the second time around) caught my eye. I read that work history entry, looked at the name on the application... Oh My.


Some one I interviewed with over a year ago (see Job Search entry-he was the one who gave me a quiz, and #2 on Papercuts entry) is now applying with me. I had turned down the job, and am glad I did because I'm glad I got this work experience where I am at. Far less boring.
