Updates

  • first day I got to see my surgery scars
  • Upgraded from splint to brace
  • my screws are still well secured, and my bones are still strait.
  • first good wash of my left hand
  • first day 100% Drug free
  • first day I got to drive a little bit.
  • craved a lot of fruits and vegetables in the last few weeks.
  • every attempt to eat bananas made me feel sicker.
  • First day that more than one food sounded edibleat a time
  • I've been craving a lot o junk food lately
  • some how lost 2 pounds (including splint weight) even though I've been eating a lot of crud.
  • I've been craving a lot of soda lately (mostly because of nausia)

  • decided I REALLY like Izze sodas - sparkling water and fruit juice... settles tummy best, and I just like.

  • Brett discovered he really likes Boylan Sodas. (I admit they have one of my favorite cream sodas).
  • a lot of nausea lately, especially last few days (hopefully just with drawls from my extreme low dose of painkillers- I'm still on my pre-surgery prescriptions)
  • brace for 1 month (next apt)
  • I've been sleeping on couch b/c brett got it perfecly set up (w/7 pillows) for sleeping my arm
  • I'm sick of sleeping on couch (certain bones started getting sore from it the last weekend), and tried to sleep in bed last few days, only to end up on couch.
  • I'm super excited that I can take brace off to sleep.
  • fantacising about sleeping in my bed.
  • I can now get my left arm wet
  • I might actually bathe daily now
  • my hair has faded a bunch, probably because bathing was a hassle, so I only bathed every 3 days, thus always used dandruff shampoo... which I believe killed my color.
  • I still like the coloring left in my hair though, and I think I will repeat the color.
  • Dr. gave me the option of physical therapy, which I decided to just do on my own as my exercises only consist of working my way up to doing this:

    and this:

..so paying the copay on a therapist seamed idiotic to me.

highlights of a festive week.

Feb 12- Died my hair red.

Feb 14
  • curled my hair (rare) put non pink lashes, painted festive hearts and glued rhinestones on my neck, in the spirit of thingss.
  • handed out valentine cards with candy at work
  • girl at work asked if my tattoo was real... 'cause eye shaddow and rhinestones apparently looks like a tattoo.
  • my boss told me I looked like a stripper... apparently you can dress more modestly and frumpy than his wife and look like a stripper, because you painted hearts on yourself for vday..
  • Went to Sundance
  • broke my left arm
  • my first toboggan ride down the ski slope. lots of snow in face
  • ski patrol cut my favorite mitten and jacket :(
  • ski patrol tried to talk me into ambulance for the painkillers. I said no.
  • ski patrol wouldn't let me DRINK, EXPECTING SURGERY
  • b drove me to ER.
  • the vitals checking guy made me cry by not letting me use my right arm to support the new "natural" curve of my left arm ( pain jump from 4-9)
  • x- ray girl made me cry again because she wanted my deformed arm to lie flat( pain jump from 4-9).
  • ER doctor called in ortho specialist, said I would need surgery.
  • NURSES WOULDN'T LET ME DRINK, because i was prob having surgery
  • finally accepted pain IV because I thought I was having surgery.
  • all the nurses and interns fawned over my x-ray verified as most exciting break all day.
  • sent me home w/out even setting bone
  • waited 45 min for meds at pharmacy
  • slept the week on the couch w/ a million pillows

Pre- broken arm

Post ER

The rest of the week consisted of nonstop itching, nonstop drinking for dry mouth, nonstop peeing from nonstop drinking, napping between peeing, and a few bathes for achy-ness, because naturally, I got a cold. I also cleaned the house, toilets, and laundry... just in time b/c Nola (b's gma) actually climbed the stairs and visited on wednesday. First time she's seen our condo.

Feb 17
  • Forced self awake all day to hand write half coherent reports... which Carrisa typed for me. barely had time to clean up reports (I hope they made sense) just in time for my deadline.
  • had first BM, which is exciting. Knowing others troubles with the pain killers I'm on, I decided to take laxatives before I get the "backed-up blues."

Friday, Feb 18
6 am surgery. woke up begging for water. See my beautiful metal arm? I had lots of rappid dreams while I was under.

slept on couch with arm elevated until early evening. Had "real" dreams... thought I had woken up, but was in another dream. Brett said I needed a token so I would know if I't was real. ha ha ha. ya, I'm pretty sure that is what it feels like to be incepted.
MY arm, still numb for a while, was dead as far as I could tell at first... flopping around. Also a bit of phantom limb... in that I keot thinking it was in my lap when it wasn't, orby my head when it wasn't. creepy.

Polo has no idea my arm has issues. not even curious about the bandages. (In photo he's licking my good hand)

Craig and Carrisa came over. Carrisa made me a pony with moveable parts (super fancy) and some creepy green colored root vegetable soup that was not only yummy, but easy on my tummy... I was super gitty when I found out she left me extra in the fridge when she left.

We played Clue and Cleopatra (because I could make everyone play Cleopatra, muah ha ha ha)...I lost them both, but I'm impressed I used my brain at all.

Ended the night swinging by Austin & Tracie's, played one round of ticket to ride, which I also lost.

I was sleepy all day, but I liked the games because they forced me to sort of use my drugged up brain

Sat Feb 19. Played alhambra twice w/ nanial and Brett. Showed a marked improvement in brain activity. Watched 2 horrible movies (mean girls 2 and eclipse).

Sun Feb 20 Slept a ton... freaking out about all the catch up I have to do for work... but at least cold is better, and my post-op arm is less painful than pre-op.

Last V-Day Craft...I (almost) promise

Some of you may have already seen this on FB... Made it for work blog, it came out supper cute... If only our condo got direct sunlight.

Photo of it on fridge because it was easier to see there (in the photo) than it was on the window.

Fear the Red

I was watching the Office last night, and Merideth's hair kind of freaked me out. I hope I pull it off well. Hoping that when I do it it looks more like this (Kat Von D)

or this (merideth)

and NOT like this (merideth)

With a Cherry on Top, or maybe just a bird.

I made a necklace

I had left over beads from some work-blog projects I'd made, and thus, I made this choker! There is a 90% chance I will never wear this out of the house... but maybe the red hair will give me courage.

What the Cra[ft] has happened to me.

Oh noooooo. HELP! It finally happened... 3+ years of working in the scrapbook industry, I've been taken by the paper and stamp demons... first all those christmas crafts and now I've realized that making a few of my "simple" handmade gift boxes turned into a mess of buttons, ribbons, stickers, rub-ons, and (my personal favorite) shimmery sparkle sprays.

Ta Da! the Gift boxes a few lucky people will be getting this VDay.

Was it worth my time? Probably not.

Cargo Noir!

Yes! I was wondering when they were going to make a family game about the family business! Maybe for my 6th anniversary we'll splurge for it...
This totally made my day. ha ha ha ha ha—ahhhhhhhhhh.

All out, and all red

I'm going to go all out for VDay. I've made cutsie pootsie gift boxes for a few special (local) people, I'm going to give out candy at work, I'm going to paint my face, and I'm going to dye my hair a more violent red then last time (hope I can pull it off!)
I am the prettiest pretty princess.
V day is going to rock.

Nursery

So, I gave my first Nursery lesson.

1. It was probably 3 minutes
2. Usually the other people seam to give 30 second lessons.
3. The kids payed better attention to my 3 minute lesson than they do to the 30 second lessons.
4. They even fought over getting the best look at my picture aids
5. I made my own picture aids, (via internet thievery and photoshop) because I can never find pictures of what I want.
6. I am awesome.

A good lesson takes 20x longer to plan than it does to present... which is why I'm glad I only teach in nursery.
