Making Brett's Life miserable.

When Brett programs the user interface for his web projects, he is always wanting my help with layout, font sizes, etc. 

I am a jerk, and I hate giving it to him. I don't know why. It's not that hard, it saves him time, takes me only minutes to at least help is aesthetics somewhat, and yet, for me it is a huge chore.

And then, every once in a while (like ever 3 years) I get this idea for a webpage I want Brett to make for me, and since I am picky a bit about design (though no pro with web), and because he struggles with it, I design the layout exactly how I want it.... and Brett looks at it, and thinks "seriously, you know what a tangle that would be to program?" And I, of course, don't want to compromise my visual logic for his programing logic.

But atlas, thus far I have never gotten past sketching up the home page, so it doesn't matter, because he never has to program my crazy ideas anyways. 

What fun. You know, He's a programing genius and together we could probably make a super team, you know... if I were a nice helpful wife.

Well, I've had this idea for an adoption-prospective-parents web page for a while, and considering how involved and interactive I've envisioned it, I finally decided that if I really want it to be more than a blog, I really need to get this idea nailed down soon, because it might take a while to program (we might cheat and just put clear buttons over the "image" of my design, because, surprise,  my husband needs to work). Oh, and we should probably get a moving on this child rearing thing, seeing as I'm getting past my prime here.

So, I haven't really looked through that many prospective-parent blogs/sites to see what is out there, mostly because some hopeful adopting couples annoy me with their sad sob stories or their overzealous cheerfulness, but nevertheless, this is the sketch up of how I want my homepage to work. I want mouseoves for every one with a super short bio, and for a little picture/about page to come up when you click on their name.  For B and me, of course, their would be a lot more going on in our page.

It's missing something, but overall, I like it for trying to be custom without overextending myself (after all, I do want to actually get around to designing the other pages and collecting all the info for them).

I can't even begin to tell you how many times in the  past I would have loved to have known how to easily radiate shapes like this.

And the sad part is that it is incredibly simple. Incredibly.

Feb Message

I have no idea if the girls I "supervise" ever use these, but I enjoy making them. Plus, They get my contact info, and the girls contact info with a month on it, so they can't really be confused on who they teach or to whom they report.

In theory.

In fact, only the old people (65+) do their visiting teaching.

I am definitely part of a lazy generation. Which is a shame, because I can honestly say that last month a met a girl because of visiting teaching that I am really glad I met. I think we will be bosom friends and drink strawberry cordial. We will not, however, watch Anne of Green Gables. Never. Ever. Never.

fondant and invites

Anyone who reads this probably already saw the pictures of my first fondant cake attempt/experiment.
I've been wanting to try it forever but could never justify buying fondant. Well, this time I did after making some gum paste flowers with my mom.





It is a super eclectic cake though, cause I wanted to try out all sorts of things, like cutting out fondant circles and putting those on, or painting on it with food coloring, or attaching ribbon. it was an experimental cake.


I've just finnished designing my sister's invites, and will be taking them to the printer's shortly. This is what I have come up with with their help (this time I am posting it bigger than fairy size):




I'll post some pics of my sister's engagement shoot later... for now, I need to get the invites/photos printed and go into work so that I don't get behind....

Last night I finally finished my work (only 1.5 weeks behind from being sick), so I spent a couple hours trying to sketch up something for my sister's wedding.

She pretty much ignores my emails asking her what she wants, and I'm still really new to the whole design aspect of these, so I would like your input. I don't want them to look cheep or cheesy.

Little things like font might change.... I did these all within 2 or so hours, so they are just "sketches," but I would like your imput.

Obvioulsy if she gets back to me, she wins, 'cause she's the bride, but if she doesn't ( and even if she does) it would be nice to know what you like the best.
